i have several of them old heavy cheap climbers..but as i get older i like hang on's better..just flip the top upside down and bolt them togather..put an upright on each side..and you got a hang on..just winch strap em to the tree at top and bottom..works great..

Thats a heck of an idea.
Last year wallymart and Dicks had those cheap super heavy steel climbers on clearance for under $100.
Now I wish I had picked one or two up.

I have one of the old original api stands that folds flat. I just crank up a tree, then rachet strap it on real tight and have a buddy with me to put up an extension ladder so i can climb down. Then put up a climbing stick to it. Your idea works great though for a stand made like the one you have.

I try this a few years back , was really hard to get in and out of , maybe it was just the climber I was using to do it.

Why not just put the climber up there in two pieces and leave it up there? Climb up to it with climbing sticks. Be much easier to get it up the tree, you could lower your top part so it would be easier to get in and out of it, and would not have to worry about ratchet straps rotting or breaking.
