One advantage of a .22 over a shotgun is the "quieter" .22 doesn't seem to "spook" the squirrels as much as a "louder" gun. About the only thing I wish were different with this CZ autoloader is it's barrel length. It's barrel length is shorter (albeit longer than most autoloaders). The CZ bolt actions have longer barrels, and are therefore a little "quieter" in the woods.

is that a pellet gun?

Sometimes you can walk up on a big hickory that has say 4 squirrels cutting in it. You can often shoot one with a .22, and the others won't even stop cutting. More times than not, shoot that first one with a shogun, and the others not only stop cutting, but are more interested in looking for whatever made that loud racket. Eventually, one of the squirrels may see you, and all the survivors take off. This just happens less with a .22.

But back to the pro and cons, it's much easier to hit a fleeing squirrel running down a limb with a shotgun! \:\)

If you want extreme quiet and the power of a .22 short. You should look at the Benjamin Marauder .22, It is so quiet you can only hear the bullet smack the squirrel. \:\)

Love me some CZ action, as far as which would be the best squirrel gun...any one of them, its all in what ya like.

The American, the trainer, the Lux & the scout are built on the same 452 action, the difference will be in barrel length, stock & open sights.

I have a scout that I run shorts thru with no problem, but it only has a 16 inch barrel, dont know if I would try a short with the longer barrels tho.( also !!! the bore on a CZ will be slightly smaller than most .22's, so buy a good upper end cleaning rod for a .20 or .17.)

My local dealer has a few in & I'm try'n to decide if I want the American (which I've always wanted) or the trainer witch has open sights, either way I cant go wrong.

For my part I dont think the 453 in .22 is worth the extra cash since a trigger can be bought or worked for less than the difference in price of a 452.

Please elaborate on using shorts in the longer barrels.

Did some research on this Benjamin Marauder and am very favorably impressed with what I read about it's quietness and accuracy. Some of the air rifles are actually louder than a .22 short, but not this one.

How many times can it be accurately shot before the air chamber needs to be re-filled?

Thanks FF, this is the type of stuff I have been wondering about and wanting to hear. I had kind of gleaned this from what I have read, but was not 100% sure if I had understood it all correctly. Thanks again for the feedback. Is there a particular aftermarket trigger you would recommend for the 452 American?

40 shot's or 4 ea. 10 shot magazines. Then you still have usuable shots, but the POI starts to drop and you lose FPS. The first year I bought one I killed 9 squirrels out of the same hickory tree by sitting there for an hour or so.

I really like my 453. I am gonna fine tune the trigger and besides 3 shots with a flashlight at 35 yards I've never put in on paper.

It lays them down and seems significantly quieter than my 10/22.

Here is the first limit with it from Indiana last Sunday. Took about 90 min but only 5 squirrels. I bow to red blood on these issues and took his recommendation on the scope.

Andy...I'm think'n Timney may be the only one would manufactures a trigger for the CZ's, thers a couple that makes adjustable sear kits and bunches of trigger tricks for the do it yourselfer kinda guy.

Here is anything you've ever wanted to know about anything CZ, these guys (and gals) have figured out every trick in the book and evaluated any product for the CZ.( be sure & dig around in the sticys & check out Sophia's signature line, she has mountains of CZ info ther.)

http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18

But consider yourself warned...CZ's are addictive.

WES... Think'n I've read post about the shorts not have'n enuff oomph to pass all the way thru the longer barrels, but dont hold me to it.

Some of the CZs like the lux (also called the trainer) and the ultra lux have a really long barrel, but they shoot great.
