He will need to be hunter safety certified.
He will not need a LICENSE until he is 13. However, if he wants to shoot antlerless deer on the Unit L Special Season hunts (everyday in Unit L) he will need a Type 94 PERMIT.

I am not TWRA, however, I thought I would share this because of my past experiences taking juveniles over the years. If I am not mistaken, due to the fact he will not have a big game license or license number, he will use his SSN to check a deer in. Is this still the case Steve?

Once he is 13 he will need a youth/junior license. That will cover everything except migratory birds, correct? I may be mistaken

Since he is a nonresident he is not eligible for the landowner exemption.

Incorrect.
At the age of 13 to hunt big and small game he will need a Junior All Game license of Type 085 or 086.
ALL ages of hunters, both resident and nonresident, need the type 94 permit to shoot antlerless deer during the Unit L G/M/A season.

SCN, does he have his own bag limits or does it count against mine? And if he has his own bag limits do I use his ss# as Andy S. stated to check in the deer?
Great information guys....Thanks!

He has his own bag limits. If you buy a Type 94 permit then he will have a TWRA ID number for the checking station.

He has his own bag limits. If you buy a Type 94 permit then he will have a TWRA ID number for the checking station. What does a juvenile without a license use to check in big game if he or she does not purchase type 094? SSN? The reason I stress this is SO MANY young hunters with no hunting license have parents/guardians/mentors taking them hunting that have no clue how to identify their kid when they get to the check station with their deer/turkey. I have witnessed this repeatedly over the last five years. The checking agent at the counter is just as lost as the parents/guardians/mentors. Furthermore, I have not been able to find this explicit verbiage in the H&T Guide. I may have missed it, but I do not think it is clearly stated, at least not that I could find.
I would think one with landowner exemption would use his or her SSN to check in big game as well. Is this true?
Suggestion: if what I have outlined here is true, it would be nice to incorporate this SSN verbiage into next years H&T Guide in an effort to reduce this confusion among the public, especially young hunters who we are trying to recruit.
