I'm covering about 600 miles roundtrip of I-40 between Wed 8-29 and Wed 9-5. I have some dove hunting planned in there, but also intend to make stops in there for squirrel hunting, possibly early season duck along the way.

If anyone wants to connect along the way, here is what I have. Open availability is in bold. I'm not necessarily looking for bag limits, just hitting different spots, hunting with different folks, and eating game meat the whole time. Shotguns or .22s, it can be your call.

Wed 8-29, am: Squirrel. Hatchie. Could use a partner
Wed 8-29, pm: Squirrel. Percy Priest

Thur 8-30, am: Squirrel. Private land, Nashville
Thur 8-30, pm: Squirrel. private land, Crossville

Fri 8 -31, am: Not sure yet
Fri 8-31 pm: Squirrel. Catoosa.

Sat 9-1: Dove. Cookeville TN
Sun 9-2: Dove. Cookeville TN
Mon 9-3: Dove. Cookeville TN

Tue 9-4 pm: Nashville area for a duck, dove or squirrel PM hunt?
Wed 9-5 pm: Nashville area or anywhere between Nashville and Memphis, PM duck, dove or squirrel hunt?

Sounds like fun, Good luck. None of the dates are good for me because of work and a Newborn at home, but wouldnt mind squirrel hunting and learning a few cooking and game cleaning tips one day with you.

I would LOVE to meet up or tag along in Cookeville! Any way I could join? If you need any info about hunting Catoosa squirrels PM me. I live in Crossville. Please if you need anybody along or know any dove field in Cookeville I would be honored to hunt with a new friend.

On your Sept. 4 & 5 hunts I recommend both for duck in New Johnsonville, TN. I got family there and it sits on Kentucky Lake. Best waterfowl hunting besides reelfoot. Its just hour west from Nashville. I think you take I-40 to Dixon. Then follow the signs.

I'll have to get back to you on the dove hunting. I'm hunting there as a guest, so I'm not necessarily in control of the situation. But I will feel it out.

Is it lake hunting? How difficult would it be for me to just roll in there and hunt without a boat etc?

Man, its been tough hunting so far. Yesterday, I stopped at Hatchie on my way out of Memphis. Over the course of 4 hours, I only managed to bag one squirrel.

I arrived in Nashville yesterday and it was 100 degrees. Went out Squirrel hunting on PP in the afternoon, shot a squirrel right away and then it started raining. I only saw one other squirrel and couldn't get a shot. I will note that I was impressed to see two other squirrel hunting parties on a weekday afternoon, both using .22s. That's encouraging to see. We ate the two squirrels for dinner last night, so I'm running on empty for dinner tonight. Heading East to Crossville later this morning -we'll see what happens this afternoon.

Arrived in Cumberland County this afternoon. I have a old friend from Nashville who I have not seen in several years that lives up here. He has been begging me forever to come visit him at his new house, so I finally stopped in. Wow. Incredible property. 90 acres of mixed hardwoods, narrow stretches of hay fields with some regenerating fields that were logged 5 years ago. The property sits directly on the edge of the Obed (60 foot drop off the back deck) river gorge and extends down to the river. 4000 sq foot log home with a custom man cave garage and a outdoor shower (far cry from the FEMA trailer I slept last night in Nashville). This place is literally crawling with turkeys, rabbits and has quite a bit if deer bedding habitat as well.

Anyway, I got him out squirrel hunting this afternoon for the first time since the early 70s. We took a dunk in is swimming hole down on the Obed river, nabbed a couple of squirrels, grilled up some squirrel and backstraps and drank bourbon and smoked cigars sitting over the river. I got a open invitation to hunt here anytime (nobody hunts this property) and considering the amount of turkeys as well as the setup, I do believe I'll have to take him up on that.

Good deal Poser, that sounds like a sweet deal to me. Best of luck killing critters on your way back home.
