I asked my local GW about the opening time once and he told me.. "It just always been that way.."
Years ago the season opened at 12 noon each day of the hunt. there were no morning shoots.

My understanding is thats a federal law. Dont matter what state u go to it opens at noon opening day. had some good morning shoots but better evenings.

Not true. This year NC's dove season opens on Sept 1st sunrise. I'm not saying I agree with it, first time since early 90's its been that way. I'd rather shoot'em in the morning. Had great shoots but as mentioned above, you can wreck a field.

So they can generate revenue from violators. Easy to watch the time and listen. Can get at least one guy at every public field.
