I've got a .17 HMR bolt action I was going to try on some squirrels this weekend. Anybody use this caliber on squirrels?

i have nver used one, but have been in many squirrel tourneys where someone has used them. their results have typically been poor. they are not quite as accurate as a 22 lr at squirrel hunting ranges. they are very loud, which spoils the area faster and very destructive on meat.

They work fine if head shooting or a thru the ribs from the side.i dont cook the ribs so they get tossed any way.been shooting a nef since they first came out.very accurate round for the most part.

Not for me anyway, to much damage if your meat hunt'n, if your just kill'n pest thats another story.
try this, shoot a grape fruit with a ballistic tip & see what happens.

FMJ's are illegal to hunt with..
I'd argue that only applies to centerfire cartridges; .17HMR FMJ expand
