I got a call Friday night from a couple buddies asking me if I could come up and fish a "new" river with them on Saturday. Since the wife was out of town and I wouldn't have to burn a yard pass so close to my elk hunt, I told them I'd be on my way. I left the house at dark thirty Saturday and met them at the dam around 10.

Right off the bat, Chris had one on and boated.

The view was great

Wasn't long before Chris had another

We caught a bunch of fish. I usually lose count of how many fish I caught ater 3, but I'm guessing I caught between 20-30. None had any real size to them, but they were alot of fun to catch.

Me, myself, and I with a decent one.

One of the bad things about being the one who always brings the nice camera is that I never get my picture taken with one. And it's like pulling teeth to get someone else to work the camera.

Paul wanted in on the picture taking also.

He even got tired of showing off and posed with a small one.

This will be one river I'll definatelly return to.

Hey what model of inflatable boat are you fishing out of? I'm thinking about buying one of those to fish the Caney and work the bank on Center Hill and want to know how you like that one. Thanks.

I need to work on that. I'm going to blame it on the sun being in my eyes.

I really don't know. I showed up with a fishing pole and tackle box. The boats were there and filled.

Oldest river in America. Either the second or third oldest in the world.

He mentioned it in the first post...great pics. Did you float the section with "the bridge?"

I've climbed up there but never fished. Pretty country for sure...

We were upstream from the bridge. It's around Fayetteville and we put in at Hinton.

Did you flow backwards on that NEW river?

I have always wanted to do that! Can WE get a driftboat down that thing?

That whole dang river flows backwards. We put in at the dam in Hinton and floated to Barksdale. There is a campgrounds on the river that we stayed in. There's no way you could do it in a drift boat. There's not even a ramp. There was a slide for white water rafts that we used. We also had to drag our raft over several shoals, some as long as 100 yards just because there wasn't enough water to float it. I also didn't see any skid marks on the rocks through the shoals.

When we were leaving and driving across the Interstate towards Beckley, I saw some folks floating there. It was raining and I couldn't see them real well, but I'm pretty sure they were in drift boats and not those big guide rafts with a center paddler. That section of the river is more narrow and the water is probably deeper through the shoals. I'll be talking to Paul here in the next week or two. He's fished the whole thing from one end of the state to the other. He'll have some ideas.

I'll give you a call later today.
