Is it hard to push like it may be damaged? Or was it always hard to push? Could be it needs oil or just needs to be broken in if brand new. He could run it by an archery shop or BassPro and compare it to the ones they have and see if its more difficult than theirs. Usually crossbow safeties arent complex mechanisms. He could inspect it really close and make sure nothing is stuck down inside of the switch.

My horton is the same way. I called the company and iirc was told this is just the way they are made..

All Horton's had a recall for the safety mechanism messing up. I would give them a call and tell them you want a new bow.

Pretty sure recall only covers 2012 models. Also, it should only move back and forth if there is a bolt in it. This is part of the anti dry fire mechanism. If bolt is in it and it hangs up or wont switch smoothly call Horton it's not safe. I have heard of 2 firing while forcing the safety into the fire position because it was stuck.
