My ol' lady requested this for a party next weekend. I have never done this before and would not suggest using a especially nice bottle of bourbon. Makers Mark, which I typically do not buy because it is over priced, was on sale so I used a bottle of it. My plan was to use Buffalo Trace.
I took two cups of pecans, soaked them for about 30 minutes. I then drained them and mixed them with Cayenne, Sea Salt, and Black Pepper. After that, I roasted them for 20 mintes at 300 degrees. Roasting them helps bring out the oils of the nuts. I then put them in a mason jar and filled with bourbon. -will report back in 1 week, but should be interesting.

Oh, sorry -should have clarified. The 30 minute soak was in water. In addition to roasting, this helps bring the oils out of the bourbon. I believe the squaw intends to make Pecan Bourbon Old Fashions with this concoction. I'm not much of a mixed drink guy, but I can enjoy a Old Fashion. I'll have to dig my tweed blazer out, I suppose.

That is what I figured but thought I'd ask to be certain. Sounds like a great Thanksgiving Day snack. If they turn out I might give it a try.

I'm not so sure that the pecans will be so edible, at least as individual snacks. I am thinking that, devoid of their oils, they may fall apart if you take them out of the liquid. They may work fine floating in your drink as a snack to polish off your last sip with, though.

I was actually thinking about candying them after soaking them...kinda like an adult version of the popular spiced pecans lots of folks make for the holidays

The Old Fashioneds came out really well.
Two shots of the pecan bourbon dash of bitter bit of simple syrup splash of water maraschino cherry, orange wedge and 1 of the pecans
They had a really nutty flavor, but I was surprised how much the cayenne pepper came through for a spicy overtone. We drank the bottle, but had quite a few of the pecans left over. They did seem devoid of most of their oil, so I don't think candying them would be a good idea. I think they might fall apart if you did that. I was thinking of crushing them and using them on pancakes or something like that since they are a kind od mushy.

Throw a couple of the mushy pecans on the cookie sheet and toast em again. Might crisp them up a bit and be good.
