We were drifting below Chicamauga Dam the other day and the river was WAY LOW. It was so low that the concrete base for the trussel supports were about 18" above the water level. A friend of mine told me he heard they were working on the lock and that was the reason the water level was low while they were working. Does anybody know for sure why and if it's only temporary when they will raise it back up?

Those supports (above water) you saw are not "exposed" by low water. They are new supports which have been built in recent months. Engineers concerned that trussel base were washing out, so they've added reinforcement. Those will always show, except during period of extremely high water.Water levels below Chick right are basically average.

I thought the river looked about normal from the level at the dam, but those supports screwed up my perspective. For some reason we were hanging up a lot the other day and with those supports showing and the visible water level line on the bank being waaay higher than the river, I thought it was unusually low. AHHH well, I guess I'll just have to go down there more and get used to it... Thanks Richard
