Ok so im really on the fence here. I have been doing some research for going on a antelope hunt now for a year or so. Ordered maps done some research etc... And have talk a couple guys that would like to go even a couple on here but none are close to the east side of the state around Kingsport. Trealtree and myself have discussed a trip but we are not close and i would really like to find someone close to meet and discuss and get to know. So if you are interested let me know

I wouldn't let the distance you live apart keep you from going on a trip. Especially this early in the game. Plan a weekend deer hunting trip here in TN, or meet somewhere to fish together for a few days. I don't know trealtree, but I've read enough of his posts to know that he has some experience hunting out west. That alone would make him a good hunting partner.

I'm heading on an elk hunt in less than 4 weeks with a guy I met on Bowsite. We got together at a shoot one day and that is the only time we've ever met face to face. However, we talk or text every couple days and keep tabs on how each others prep work is going, talk over maps, etc. I expect nothing but a great hunt.

That being said, do you have any points? I've got 4 in Wyoming and have considered an antelope hunt for next year. I do want to hunt a good unit but my primary reason for heading out will be to scout for a future deer hunting trip (3 deer points now). This is part of the reason I'm considering going solo. I also wouldn't mind fishing for a day. I've got several hunting trips planned for this fall and will not be doing any planning for next year until I get through some of these. But, if you've got similar points and are somewhat interested in going, let me know. I just can't commit to anything now.

Another option, if you just want to get out west; would be to contact AT Hiker about his Wyoming cow elk hunt. Sounds like a good opportunity to go with someone with some western hunting experience.

Points should'nt be an issue. If we put in together, our first choice would be a unit that has almost 0 odds. 2nd choice would be a unit with good odds that we want to hunt. That way we could keep building our points. Also our points would be averaged.

I changed my mind on the cow hunt, decided on a left over goat tag instead. Im in middle TN, but feel free to get in touch with me. I have discussed a little with trealtree about the 2013 WY deer hunt too. If we decide on the same unit, I hope we can make the hunt work. Im just indecisive right now on which unit to hunt.

My best friends here that I deer/turkey hunt with are on the fence about going out west. They really want to but have not made it their priority. I have pretty much decided to go solo, since that things are going well. I am actually going to do some scouting next month in deer unit F, so I hope to have a good report.

Another thing to consider is this; a dry year or hard winter kill can make the best areas the worst. Thats why I am building points plus trying to hunt every year if I can. My plan now is to hunt and get to know area 23, in the mean time build points...hopefully get the Red Desert one year!

Im considering a CO archery elk hunt in early Sept myself, backpacking in and hoping to catch the bugle before muzzleloader opens. $500 for a tag is pretty stout though, but backpacking in non-grizzly country would be a blast.
