1. what do you like to eat....
2. are you talking a fall or spring summer garden?
3. what type of area do you have to plant?
Now.. just some thoughts... If you are taking about a spring garden... go ahead and clear for it now if you can. get the grass out or kill it off. This will help in the spring.
Somethings that I have found that grow good here in east tn... start early (March) with some lettuce seed (if you like lettuce). Romaine does real well. Then around mid april or so, put out some yellow squash, (straight neck prolific type) and maybe a zuchinni or two. 2-3 plants of either will give you a good number. Throw a tomato or two in with some cucumber plants....
That is just a basic start... Keep in mind what you and your family like to eat... subsitute as needed..... you can also plant some brocolli plants in September... (the Co-op generally ahs them)... and you can also plant lettuce or greens in early September as well and they should do good.
