Appear to be relatively young? What would you say on score? This guy moved in on this salt lick and visited it 4 different times in this same day.

I follow the guidelines of the QDMA, definitely not a trophy manager, so no I wouldnt let it walk on 55 acres in a heavily hunted area. My realistic expectations for this property are 2.5 or better. But I expect it will have range shifted by then anyway.

I hope you get pics of him in the rut...I'm saying he is a 3.5 or tweener...

The early pics he looks super thick in the middle. I do see 2.5 in the neck and hips. Like I said, hope for later pics.

Nice buck Steven. Do you have any pictures of last year bucks that resemble him? If you do get the opportunity to put your tag on him, make sure you save his teeth if at all possible. I'd be interested to see them. Best of luck.

He looks young in some pics, but I bet his age would fool you. In cattle terms, he looks "quick patterned" meaning a smaller frame, quicker to mature body type. I bet he's 3.5 or possibly 4.5 but I'd bet on 3.5.

After some review,I have one that possibly could be from 2010 but I really cant tell those sort of things with any degree of certainy, Im just not good at it. Maybe yall can help. Only one from 2011 that would even be close too, but Im not sure its even close to matching LOL Ill put them under here though so yall can see if you see any similarity. And Im sorry thats really all I can find, cant find multiple pics of them.

2010

2011

Im not sure either of these two pics are a picture of the young stud. But it very well could be hime in the 2011 pic. White patches on front legs could line up but its hard to tell. Either way he is a very nice racked buck. I do believe him to be 2.5 though

Neither of the pictured bucks from 2010 or 2011 are the same buck. Notice the top-pictured buck has short white socks. That's something that won't change over time.

That top buck could be 3 1/2, but I sure would like to see him in late October or early November to get a better idea. It's always hard to field-judge age in summer.

I shot a buck with s similar body configuration. In pics with other bucks he looked smaller, but he was dominant. He was a decent deer (123"). When viewed by a biologist he said "classic" 3.5 yo but when aging the teeth at a later date it was a 2.5 yo.

On occassion, deer just don't have the body mass their age suggests. This can really throw off a field-judged age. One of the few times I've misjudged a buck's age by more than one year was a small-bodied and small-antlered buck that had the classic body definition of a 2 1/2 year-old. But once killed, toothwear indicated the buck was at least 4 1/2.

IF he's only 2 1/2, you can be pretty assured he'll never live to become 3 1/2. And this could be the poster buck for high-grading of the best 2 1/2's. \:D

But knowing how easy it is to misjudge age during the summer, I'd speculate odds are he's more likely 3 1/2 than 2 1/2. Spectacular antlers regardless.

I think it is the same deer, looking at the white on the front legs.

After further review of the previous play the previous ruling is over turned. NOT the same deer.

Although itís still early I don't see any indication that says he's 3.5. Having said that, he is a spectacular 2.5 year old if thatís what he turns out to be! Not sure if Iíve ever seen a 2.5 year old with 11 inch G-2ís. Like Wes mentioned, if he truly is 2.5 it will be a miracle if he makes it through the season assuming he moves like a typical 2.5 year old. If he does make it I can't wait to see what he turns into at 3.5.
