Took my wife with me yesterday to try and get her a good Rockfish. She did really well for a first timer throwing the baitcaster. It only took her about 20 min to get the hang of it and start throwing the big redfins. Fishing was really tough with very few lookers or swirlers. This was the only fish we caught and she did a great job getting it in the boat. Not a monster but better than a shutout. Proud of her!

That's awesome! Nice to see us getting our ladies out there to enjoy our sport! I'm looking forward to the white bass run and bringing mine out to have a good time with them on light tackle.

So how do you fish these redfins for river stripers? I'm very new to striper fishing and all I've done is drift swimbaits below dams in the current. It's worked alright but I'm not good at that technique yet. I'll be doing a lot of fishing after them in the Caney coming up soon and plan to use redfins. Do you slow retrieve them, stop and go, quick retrieve? Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

I definately prefer the slow retrieve. Fast enough that the lure doesn't cause surface ripples. No stop and go.....If you see a fish following, just keep a steady retrieve and fish until you are forced to lift it out of the water at the boat. If one hits and misses, maintain the course....the one pictured here missed on its first attempt and came back and hooked up 4 seconds later on the same retrieve.

I put a 33lber in the boat last Friday that didn't hook up till its third swipe at the lure.....I maintained a steady slow pace until it swallowed the lure. These are just my observations but they have worked very well for me this year. Good luck

Cool dude! Had it been over 30 I would have requested you be banned! ;). Are your fish higher up or moving down from a month ago?
