The best best? Or just a good all around creek set up? How much do you want to spend?

Ugly Stik combo.... a friend of mine uses the Micro Spin combo but I use a 5' 8 or 10" med. action Stik with an ultra lite shimano spinning reel and 6 lb test.

6ft-7ft quality light to medium action graphite spinning rod with a quality reel that holds 4-8 lb test. I am harder on my wading rods than my boat rods, so I settle for slightly less expensive rigs for creek fishing. My current rig is a 6'8" medium light Shimano Crucial with a Cabelas Prodigy 2000 size reel. Ugly sticks usually have a very whippy action and lousy sensitivity. If you are throwing small cranks or spinners, an Ugly stick is just fine. If you are fishing soft plastics or jigs, the extra backbone and sensitivity of a quality graphite rod will help out.

What he said^! Folks that think a Ugly Stik is sensitive would not know what to think if they used a higher end Shimano, GLoomis, or St Croix. When I was younger, I thought that a fishing pole was a fishing pole and that people were crazy for spending $100-$200+ for a rod. I no longer think they're crazy. There is a BIG difference....or maybe I'm just crazy now.

Quality 5-1/2 to 6 foot light action rod and with a quality light weight reel and six pound line. You want tobe able to cast everything from 1/16-ounce lures on up to buzzbaits and medium crank baits. I persnallt would not use an Ugly Stik for anything other than staking up tomatoe plants.
