Buying a Ky Hunting License this season and wondering if someone would point in the direction of some public land. Looking for something with limited road access and not over crowded.

Been on the Ky Fish and Game website found the maps locating public land.

Appreciate any help.

There's a ton of public ground in the Daniel Boone NF. The Beaver Creek WMA south of Somerset is in a wilderness area with VERY limited access. It be hard hunting and harder to get one out without a game cart and a good trail, but it might be something to look at.

Pennyrile is an excellent place especially if you like bow-hunting as it is mostly wooded. Lots of big deer in Pennyrile. 15" antler restrictions.

This is on my too scout list for this summer especially since you can utilize a boat on it and hunt it in early mzl.

I hunt Taylorsville a fair amount, but have never seen a "shooter" there. it is great for does. I also hunt many of the other WMAs around N. Central KY. There are plenty of deer on all of them and I have killed on most, but some are better than others for mature bucks.

I've been interested in Pennriley WMA but honestly I'm getting to many properties to hunt in KY to keep tabs on deer and get to, so Barren and the new 2000+ acre WMA outside of lexington will probably be my last two to check out.

Pennyrile is pretty good if you're willing to hunt hard and not see bunches of deer. It's not what I would consider the kind of hunting that most expect out of KY but it's right up my ally. Good luck with wherever you decide!
