Is there a more economical alternative to string wax and barrel/rail lube?
The stuff I got was $20 for a tube the size of chapstik and even smaller amount of lube. Doesn't last long at all when using it every 5 shots (as recommended by bow manufacturer).

Be careful with the chapstick type wax in early season. If it gets hot from sun or sitting in your vehicle it WILL melt into liquid and get all over anything around it. Im so smart that I've had 3 tubes melt on 3 different times before i started remembering to put it in the cooler. Yeah...im real bright...

I guess I'm off to Wal-Mart!
I had thought of Chapstik but didn't know if a petroleum based product would harm the string.
I also don't see why a little bit of vegetable oil wouldn't work on the rails. Could just put that in the roller-ball applicator.

Dupont makes a spray teflon that Lowes sells for about $7. Ive been using it for several years with good results. Several guys on the TenPoint forum swear by it also. Doesnt gunk up the rails and lasts 50-75 shots. One can will last years.
Just mentioning that in case you get tired of gunking up your crossbow with traditional wax. However, you should still burmish traditional wax into your strings using your fingers. Just be sure to not get it on the center serving.

TenPoints dvd says not to wax the center serving but doesnt say why. I imagine if you waxed it you would eventually get wax down in the trigger release mechanism and gunk it up. But thats just my uneducated guess.
