I have a friend that has a Bullet 20XD with comp hull that has a 225 Merc on it. It had a 25 pitch prop on it and with 2 people and a fishing load would run around 75 ish with decent hole shot. He has went to a 26 4 blade trophy prop and has a weak holeshot and loss of top end (68 mph). He tryed the 26 with the jackplate in the same position as the 25 and 1/4" below pad with poor results. My question is, which way should he be going with the jplate?

For top end speed, the higher the better. I'd move it up to even with the pad. Only one way to tell though. Move it, run it...

He has moved it up to 1/4" above the pad but has not got to test and tune yet.

I get a solid 28mph out of my 25hp Johnson.....sometimes I almost have to turn my hat backwards Got a buddy that has a 98mph bullet, fished with him ONE time! I don't drive that fast on the interstate, scared the crap out me!!!

Either, Or depending on who is around. No point in having a 55 mph drag car. If it is capable of 80+ id want it to be able to do it. Go big or go home. Na fishin with a crash helment on aint much fun but a toy is a toy

Go back to the three blade. Or a different three blade. A 26 chopper will get him out of the hole better and add top end. I'm no expert but my experiences with four blade props ain't been good. Takes to long to get rpms up. He probly has the Jp in the right spot just not enough power to spin it. Buddy just went with a four blade trophy on a 200 Merc (24p) on a 19'6 hydra sports and had the same results. Went to a three blade chopper in a 25 and it was off to the races!

Go over to BassBoatCentral.com and check into it. There are a lot of sharp Bullet guys there. Probably even someone with the same set up that has tried everything out there prop/set up wise.

It's about getting the most out of your investment. My boat will only run 55MPH but I tested enough props and jackplate positions to know I am maxed out.
Would you drive your truck around with a vacuum leak making it burn more fuel with less performance? Of course not. Same principle.

No but I also don't drive my truck around with the pedal to the floor either.......not really the same principal. I was just teasing with the fellar. If he is like Ricky Bobby and just wants to go fast, then have fun and do it.

Go back with the 3 blade. Hole shot will be slower, but will gain back the top end. That's just the nature of the beast..

Just to clarify, his original prop was a 4 blade also instead of a 3 like I had originally thought. He went from a 25p 4 blade to a 26p 4 blade. He ran it yesturday after moving the jp up and he got quiet a bit of top end back(73 mph) but is still blowing out pretty bad on takeoff. He is also throwing a tail about as tall as the cowl on the motor. I will check that website out guys. Thanks for that.

Sounds like he has too much prop now, as raising the motor to help top end will likely hurt his holeshot and cause blowout!

The most important question is rpms. How many is he turning with his current set up at WOT?

Opti or Pro max merc n does it have low water? If it does keep jacking. Brand of prop makes as much difference as pitch, they all have there own personality no 2 are alike.
