Wierd looking fish. Not a bottom dweller cause of the mouth orientation? I don't have any clue?

I don't know what their called but I do know that bass don't care for them. Caught many in the cast net over the years and putting one on the hook is just a waste of time. Not sure why

you are right. Studfish are topwater dwelling fish, usually in shallow water in creeks. Often in schools. Very aggressive towards small lures. I've caught them on line and by hand at night with a flashlight. I will probably see tons of them tomorrow when I wade 3 miles of a local creek.

my fishin buddy was at the south harpeth with a friend and his friend had a live one for bait and hooked a smallie that went airborn and looked to be 5 lbs but it got off. That's what he told me and he doesn't make up fish stories.

Yeah and deer supposedly eat hickory nuts and walnuts. Not saying it couldn't happen but I wouldn't put my time in it. I been wading creeks for smallies for a good 18 years and that's just been my observation....
