Never tried to grow. When is the best time to sow and what is involved with soil prep?

Annual Ryegrass has to be the easiest grass to establish. Now "Winter Wheat" a little different. For deer... Annual Rye and clover mixture are easy to establish and little prep is needed. Would spray areas intended for for plot now with RoundUp if infested with noxious weeds. (Tall Fescue, Thistle, Crabgrass, Foxtail, etc.) Would seed next month! September.

If you are talking about overspreading your yard with rye so you have a green yard through the winter, just spread the seed and stand back. When you mow it, you get that really fresh mowed smell, kinda neat. At the first sign of heat POOF it'll be gone like free chicken wings in Memphis.
