Did not make out goal of 100. The heat hit us hard. We did manage to catch 92 that produced 22 vac. bags of fillets. This is a sample of what we were keeping. Caught most on a 1/16 ounce jig with a 3" electric chicken tail.

Fun and lots of good eats later. We kept everything under 2#. The lake we were fishing is primarily a bream lake so the bass population needs to be kept in check.

Bguy if you had been paying attention this was a management issue on a private pond. The pond is a bream pond so the bass have to be controled.

Craddock is right. This is a private club in AL. State laws do not apply. That is not true of the deer or turkeys, all state laws apply there because they were not stocked with private funds nor controlled by high fence.

Until the sale of most of the property, we had two bass lakes and two bream lakes. Only the bream lakes remain and are not open to the public.

What? You can only keep two times your limit in the freezer on bass? That's absolutely ridiculous. Please tell me this isn't true. It's not like it could be enforced, TWRA doesn't go in people's houses checking their freezer. Not yet anyway.

You better read your regs and do a little research! Just some friendly advice.

I looked into it and found that it's true. This is very disappionting. TWRA oversteps it's boundaries and I would be very happy to see them take some steps back. So what now, do they actually have the authority to come into people's homes and check their freezer?

You mean to tell me that if I, because I don't do well with cold weather, want to fish hard during spring/summer to stock up on fish to feed myself during the cold months when I don't want to go near water, that's a violation? Absolute nonsense. Shame on TWRA.

TCA 70-4-204-Cold Storage of Wildlife.

It is a state statute and not a TWRA regulation. If you don't agree with the statute, the mode to get it changed is through your legislator.

Oh ok, I found this on TWRA's website but didn't see anything listing it is a state statute rather than a TWRA regulation. I won't even waste my time trying to get that changed through a legislator. I don't anticipate ever having twice my limit of fish in the freezer because I eat them quickly when I keep them. I don't fish much in the winter because of the cold but I have to say this is ridiculous. As long as I obey the rules each fishing outing, I should be allowed to stock up for times when I can't fish due to weather, work, whatever.

I don't know about your home freezer but TWRA went into a hotel room in Lenoir city last year without a warrent and counted the Crappie in 3 guys coolers. They were 2 over the limit for 2 days and only got a warning. I saw them go into a neighbors home without a warrent 40 years ago and check poached deer in his freezer. He got a ticket.

TWRA can search with a search warrant or the owner's consent to search. Without one of the two, a search is not done. I'm guessing in the two instances you cite they had consent to search.

Nice catch! I do know a 30 plus lb catfish cut into filets can sure look like several limits!!! Of course we had catfish for lunch and dinner the following day so there was not much for the freezer anyway. \:D

sorry about that bowriter...didnt know you were pond fishing...but i think it is still illegal to have more than a double limit in your freezer at anytime...weather you caught them in another state or not i wouldnt want more than 20 filets in my freezer at one time.....i know a guy who had a stock pile of filets in the freezer and got caught!!! the TWRA can tell whats bass, whats crappie and whats catfish and etc..most cases they wont bother with looking in your freezer unless you are caught on the lake with way over your limit or they are told by someone else that you have them...i enjoy catching fish and eating them also..so know your rules before stockpileing them in the freezer...

One law that needs to be changed for sure. One place the TWRA misses the mark bad.
