Nice fish!!!! I bet those Jacks were a hoot from the pier! I have caught them off the beach, and they really put up a fight. I am glad to know the kings and spanish are still in, I head down there in a week.

The "whatever this is" fish is called a "lookdown". I guess you can see where it gets its name.
Just a note for your next trip...Using that bonito as cut bait is fantastic for reds from the beach.

We gave it to a very appreciative Asian man. It seems they like to cut off the head and eat it.
Do you drag the bigger ones to the shore or ----- how do you get the bigger ones up?
You chase it around until you get it back to the pier, someone yells for a gaff, you desperately yell for one again, at which point your husband and sons realize it is you with a fish, and a nice young man comes running with a gaff on a long rope, hooks it and pulls it up.

Thanks. We did enjoy the fishing. The boys even had fun fighting sharks. stik is still impressed with the fight the 24 1/2 pound jack gave him. The one 20 pounder was more fish than I wanted to deal with. Dadgum those things are crazy strong.

That was one of two. stik had one by himself and the one on my little $40 rod and reel combo.  He made me chase that one and fight it for a while so I could get some experience. I got more experience than my arms could handle.
Yep those jack crevalles and amber jacks will give you all you want and than some...basically anything with jack in the name will jack you up! Ha

We have always loved OBX but the fishing was so great at Gulf State Park, I think we have found our new addiction. The folks on the pier made the trip even better. We are already booked for a week next June.

Wow! Those crevalle jacks are fighters for sure! I'd love to catch one that big! The small one I caught years ago was enough of a fight...anything bigger would be awesome!
