I was wondering if any of y'all ever camped the backcountry of LBL? We live just a stones throw from there and really have never ventured far from the roads. I love to primitive camp and thought that maybe someone could give me a few pointers on out of the way places over there......away from the party crowds and such. Can you do this in bow season and hunt for a few days with a permit? Thanks a lot y'all! ;\)

There are lots of places to camp and you can take many of the back roads to good spots. The easy to get to spots near the lake are usually full of folks. Some are there to party, some just to fish and camp. You can camp during hunting season too. I'd recommend driving through there all day one Saturday and seeing where there are people camped and finding areas you'd like. If you don't care about being on the lake, you can camp all alone. There are some springs you can camp near too. I think the south end gets more use, so you may want to venture further north.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks a lot Whiskey! Think we will wait till gun season opens everywhere else..maybe it won't be as crowded..plus it will be colder by then.

I love backpacking at LBL in late winter/early spring...not many hikers and no hunters either. Try to the North/South trail...or part of it.
