I have found a lady that is getting to old to take care of her 1 year old redbone and is willing to give it to me for no charge. I don't believe this dog has ever been hunted or introduced to raccoons. Also, I have never trained a coonhound before. Am I getting in over my head or can this dog be trained to be a good coondog? Any help will be appreciated.

Ttake it hunting with a trained dog a few times you will find out pretty quick to see if it has any interest.

Perfect age to be hunted with some good dogs every night! I say every night because thats what it takes to train a pup into being a good hound.

i know of some of the older men that wouldnt even think of starting a dog untill it was two yrs old. With my hound i waited untill she was 6 months old then i introduced her to a hide and started hunting her with some really good dogs every night untill she started treeing with them once she started treeing with the other dogs i started hunting her by herself she figured it out pretty quick.
