Go wade a creek with a small jig, trout magnet, fly, or whatever you choose. Get the lure on the bed before they see you and get lockjaw. Never get big, but always the most colorful fish in the water. I caught this one on a fly last week.

I haven't been to the Stones River tailwater below Priest this year, but in years past there have been some nice shellcrackers on the beds upstream from the Kohl's greenway.

There are some nice buffalo there too if you want to take a crack at them, but they are very skittish and tough to catch with a fly. I spent a whole lot of time on those fish, and I caught some nice ones, but eventually I moved on to places where they are more cooperative.

shellcrackers are cool, and I think they are on the bed too. I'd love to catch a huge one sometime.

Definitely a longear. They are one of the most beautiful fish in Tennessee in my opinion. One day I'd like to set up a big aquarium with longears and some of the other colorful native fish.

I've only tried with a 10 gal, but even 2 longears didn't get along with each other or any other fish. They like their space and I'm not sure how big an aquarium you would need to support multiples. Right now I have only 1 bluegill... Tried 2 in the past but the first wouldn't stop beating up the second. Same happened with longears a while back, and also, the longears just hid behind the filter all day and wouldn't come out and get excited for food like a bluegill does. They would rarely eat in front of me. A bluegill will eat in front of me within a couple days of catching it.
