We put in about 2 acres of wheat last fall. It grew and topped out nicely this spring but never got harvested. It's still standing all dried up. If I bush hogged it down this weekend would it be good still to pull in the doves or do you think its all dropped and gone. This was the first time ever growing any wheat so I'm clueless as to how it will work! I know sunflowers are the best...

We have used standin wheat before ,had my best hunt in tnat field to. Had my limit at 12:22 to be exact. Dont bushhog it all down this weekend, just hog a strip every week till openin day to keep fresh seed on the ground. If it has ragweed growin in the wheat that will make it that much better.

I would'nt start bushhogging for at least another month. Unless you have someting pressing, I'd let it stand a little bit longer. Also, with wheat, you should have some ragweed starting to come up in it. Doves LOVE ragweed seeds! There has probably been some seed loss, but there should still be enough to have a good shoot!

Also, I have killed a lot of doves and been on many great hunts. We would shoot doves every day of the season all the way through Christmas! From my own observations and experience, WHEAT is the BEST dove shoot you will ever have! Sunflowers come in 3 or 4th behind corn, millet and milo/sorghum. Many may argue that, but thats been my experience.

if you are not in a "burn ban", I would spray with roundup if needed then later set on fire, this will leave wheat seed on a cleaner surface and wheat sprouting back will be less
