I have shot 4 elk, 6 mule deer, 3 whitetails, 2 moose, 9 black bears, 50+ coyotes, 2 mountain goats, 1 big horn sheep and countless gophers with my 308. There is nothing a 308 can't do if you place the shot correctly. I love my 308 and will never change to another cal anytime in my life.

Oh it does more than the standards, it just takes a special person to show you what it can do that the others cant the is nothing a 7mag can do that a 30-06 can't. True they both will kill deer, but I would rather not track em. I hunt with a 30-.06 and I don't have to track them. They drop where I hit them or only go less than 10 yards.

I keep hearing people talk about over kill..... you can only kill some thing once... it is either dead or is not...... yes there are guns will more power than needed....but depends on the circumstances....... you can kill them with a .22 or a .458 and anything in between....end result they are dead

.270 wasa the rifle that I stepped up to from the 30-30 when I was younger. It has been a great gun and I have never had to track an animal no further than 20 yards from where it was hit. I hunt with Hornady ammunition with the ballistic tips. The .308 is also a very good gun as well, I have a browning lever action .308 and love it.Both are great guns but i'd say if I had to choose it would be the .270.

killed many deer with both calibers. it really depends on what you like. .308 is a well researched round and if your interested in stockpiling ammo then it's a good choice. .270 is also a great round. It has became more researched round lately. You could go wrong with neither round in my opinion. My only suggestion is if you are hunting places with long shots in mind get a flat shooting gun you have minimal drop with.

had a 270 and killed some nice dear with it, sold it last year for a 308 which i plan to kill some deer with.
I personally like the less recoil on the 308 but both are fine rounds to play with.
