I know I've read on TNDeer or another forum about using foam insulation to deaden the sound of treestands.

Anyone have any helpful tips? I've looked at 2 of my Summits and really don't think the foam will make it around all of the bends. I've thought about drilling some holes large enough to accomodate the 6" application tube and going that way.

Any tips? Thanks.

You can make an extension tube for the foam out of clear tubing. May be able to get by with drilling only one whole in each section. Once you're done you can put a rubber gromlet in the hole to cover it up.

Buy the components and mix it as a liquid. You can pour it in a little at a time and it will run all the way down. Don't use the canned stuff, it will just stick wherever the end of the tube is.

You don't need to get foam all the way through every tube to quiet it down. Kinda like putting your finger on a tuning fork will stop the vibrations.

Can o spray foam worked well for me.

I used the can and it did pretty well. In addition I am in the process of sanding it down and using a rubber spray coating now. Then I will spray paint over it.

Ren,
Make sure the rubber stuff is TOTALLY cured before you do anything.

I had a black goopy mess on my hands last season when I put rubber undercoater on a couple spots on my stand.

I think it takes about a week to completely cure.

I tried it last night and it worked great!

I was shocked how far the foam actually went inside the tubing of the stand. It easily went completely inside all of the tubing.

Now the mess, that's another story. I put down cardboard and it saved my garage floor, boy that stuff is sticky!

Thanks for all of the advice.

yeah wear gloves before spraying that foam, its definately a mess. Also keep the cables sprayed with a plastic coating on the bare metal spots, it makes them alot quiter when setting up in the morning.

It added like zero weight. Let it dry, trim it off, paint it black. I was shocked at how much quieter the stands are.

I hate that they are making money of this idea.I've been filling my stand with foam and painting the outside with rubberized under coating for about
10 years. Owell.

What kind of undercoat do you use?

I tried it last year and it was a gummy mess. Only gave it 3 days to dry and I think it was during gun season/cool and wet.

Want to try it again to quiet down the area the cables go into.

Field tested the new quieter Summit stand project this past weekend and it is unbelievable what a difference in the sound of the stand. Try it, you'll love it!

How many cans of spray foam does it take to do a summit viper? Does the rubber undercoating make the platform slick? Thanks

I used less than a full can of spray foam for my Viper. As far as the undercoating getting slick, you can use sand to minimize the slippage and improve grip. Just spray on the undercoating as you normally would, then, while it is still wet, sprinkle enough sand to get the desired texture. Let the first coat dry, then just spray the second coat over the sand to seal it up. Works great and really improved the traction.
