I am sorry, and hope to not offend too terribly bad with this next statement. I do think hens should be killed, anytime no matter if they are bearded or not, whether they are in the spring or fall.
I was just raised differently and in the south we were raised that turkeys should be hunted in the spring, and hens were absolutely sacred.
I am not saying it is right or wrong, but looking at a dead hen does zero for me, and I personally think it isn't much of an accomplishment. Bearded hens aren't exactly rare, and every hen that dies in the spring is potentially 12 or more turkeys which will never roam the woods.
No offense to anyone in particular, and feel to flame away, but those are my personal feelings.

Ive killed 2 myself. One here in TN and one in Kansas. 5 and 8 inch beards.

For those that did not see it in my other post. This study showed they both (bearded and non-bearded hens) produced poults at the same rate. Productivity of Bearded Wild Turkey Hens in South Texas
