it's on my bucket list but I don't plan to go shooting every bearded hen I see. I would like to have one under my belt though.

I shot one Easter morning. Have seen several through the years. Either out of season or out of bounds.

I was just wondering because I did get one this past season , she had an 8 inch beard. I regret not having her mounted. I'm pretty sure shes the same one we had been seeing for the past 2 years. I can't say that I ever recall seeing any with poults either but then again our lease has so many hens I don't know how one could tell which babies belong to which mama bird.

I've seen several but never shot any. I did see one around my house quite a bit a few years ago and thought if I got a shot with a bow I might try it but never did.

I went years without seeing one, but year before last I ended up seeing 2 within a few weeks of each other during deer season. I drew back on one of them with my bow, but she busted me before I got a shot off..

I would hope so, as it is illegal in Tn. to shoot a turkey that doesn't have a visible beard.... mature or not.

You are correct, I was referring to the spring turkey season.... sorry for any confusion.

I don't fall turkey hunt, so I really don't think about it.... when I answered it never even came into my mind that maybe it was taken during a fall hunt.

I am sorry, and hope to not offend too terribly bad with this next statement. I do think hens should be killed, anytime no matter if they are bearded or not, whether they are in the spring or fall.

I was just raised differently and in the south we were raised that turkeys should be hunted in the spring, and hens were absolutely sacred.

I am not saying it is right or wrong, but looking at a dead hen does zero for me, and I personally think it isn't much of an accomplishment. Bearded hens aren't exactly rare, and every hen that dies in the spring is potentially 12 or more turkeys which will never roam the woods.

No offense to anyone in particular, and feel to flame away, but those are my personal feelings.

I am pretty sure you left out the most important word, "not". \:\)

For those that did not see it in my other post. This study showed they both (bearded and non-bearded hens) produced poults at the same rate. Productivity of Bearded Wild Turkey Hens in South Texas

Not being a horses rear, but just because you and your buddies have not seen something does not mean it does not exist or cannot happen.

Seen a bunch of them over the years. I see as many poults with them as I do with hens with no beards.

Have had 12 within range in 10 years but never pulled the trigger on one. Longest one I've had within range would have easily taped 9 inches but they are never thick. If they don't gobble and strut I really don't have any interest!
