I don't think there are any Mulberry trees in the areas I am hunting. I have a Sugar Berry tree in my backyard that the squirrels are wearing out all day long, but, out in the woods, it's been pretty sparse sightings. Maybe I should try an afternoon hunt?

I have been hunting morning and evenings and seeing squirrels each time. Its going to be a HOT afternoon hunt if you go. If you could find a good food source and set up in ambush you can get in the squirrels. My biggest problem with spring squirrel hunting is the difficulty in finding a good foodsource versus the fall when they are in every oak or hickory tree. They love any tree thats blooming but with everything so early this year it would probably be difficult to find any tree with blooms on it.If it stays hot and dry any water source would be a good bet. I limited out 2 days in a row when squirrel season opened in 2008 hunting by the only water source on the property.

I killed one in the backyard today with my air rifle. The squirrels don't come into my yard often because they know they will be shot at. I see them in the neighbors' yards a lot. Anyway I got it dressed and will either cook it soon or freeze it.

Going out in the A.M. with the 12 gauge to try and bag a couple public land squirrels... hopefully to include a fox squirrel
