Coon has been raiding our hen house.

Whats a good shot size for coons? Will high brass 7s be heavy enough?

Thanks.

Depends on how close you are. I would just get a live trap instead.

I know from visual experience high brass #6 from a full choke 12 gauge will do the job from about 20 yards. I'm guessing the 7's would work as well.

I prefer #4 shot, especially the 2 3/4" turkey loads. I buy them after season for around 5.00 a box just for around the house varmints.

High brass 6's are just fine for coons. At close range almost anything will work, but 6's are good out to 30 plus yards with a tight choke.

.22 shorts work, but not in a residential area

Well the easiest thing in a neighborhood is a good air rifle \:\) I've shot more raccoons with air rifles than anything else. I have one that is very quiet. I think my compound bow is louder. \:\)

Not in a neighborhood.

Stinking coon shoved a trap out of the way and was on top of the coop last night. Too bad for him I captured the chickens who like to roost on TOP of the coop and locked em up.

Might have to try and put a snare over the hole I left to funnel him into the barn.
