I was curious if the cool weather we've had in the last week mite ill effects on any chicks that have been hached out.

What say you ??

Not in my opinion. The way that cool weather came through with no immediate rains before it hit, or during, they will be fine. Combine that with me finding a clutch that was probably hatched right before, and had survived through it gives me a positive outlook.

What gets poults with regards to weather, is a heavy rain that ends abruptly with wind and quickly falling temps. Wet woods, temps below 40 degrees, and wind is the bad combo.

Keep in mind these critters have great success in areas much further north that experience cold snaps well into June during their peak hatching.

I've heard sevral times that cool/cold weather & rain would give them pnumonia, but I have nothing more than rumors to go on.

Just curious.

as Setter said its the cold mixed with wet that is a real issue or long extended periods of VERY cold temps.

In normal years when poults generally hatch end of May, first of June we normally dont have temps in 40's. I always thought heavy rains and/or flooding were hardest on poults/nests.
