Your a bird hunter. Been seeing "lots" of woodcock up on the mountain. Probably flushed at least 15 different birds on one long ridge I've been huntin. See quite a few grouse, but had never seen a woodcock until this year. Are they a "migratory" game bird.

Supposed to be, but in the last 5 years or so I have been seeing a ton of what appear to be resident woodcock. Even seen some with chicks as well.
There are areas where woodcock numbers are really getting high, and they are there no matter what time of year it is.
I am surprised they are still considered migratory, but I guess a bunch still do migrate every year.

all the ones i have seen are most likely migratory. here today, gone tomorrow.

They could be in some areas. However, if they are raising chicks, and here through summer like the ones in the areas I am referring to, they are not migratory. However, I am sure a ton do migrate, but we have a good population of resident wood cock.
The only valley populations I know of are around Watts Bar Lake in Roane County. The mountains is where I see most of the resident birds.
