Anyone else notice light weights on birds this year?
My dad killed double bearded (10 & 5"), one-inch spurred gobbler this morning. He didn't touch 15 lbs on the scales !
No noticeable injuries, and the meat looked fine. And this was middle TN, as well!
Reckon since he's been breeding since February that he's wore himself plumb out ?

Not at all birds have been heavier than normal. The places I hunt have ideal habitat and virtually unlimited food, combine that with a mild winter and the weight packed on.

One was 18 lbs and the other was just shy of it. About average round here for what I guesstimated as 2-year old birds.

Birds are always lighter late in season, breeding takes its toll..I killed one in TN on April 2nd that weighed 26.5lbs it was pretty heavy by the time I got to truck. LOL
