This has always been my experience for the areas I hunt. I LOVE a cool crisp morning with a low of 45-50 and light winds followed by the sun rising (like this morning, while I was at work). These have BY FAR been my best gobbling mornings over the last several years in the areas I hunt.

In the morning I'd try to hunt a pasture field that is picked down, or some other low-grass field. They don't like those tall, wet fields in the mornings. They'll probably be fine in the taller fields by noon or after.

Last hunt I was on, one was gobbling good in the woods during the morning and eventually headed out to a field where some hens and jakes were. shot him at 9:30am in the field, no strutting, just feeding and coming towards me. It was a corn field but the corn was only about 6" tall. I saw birds in the fields and woods that day. Sunny, nice weather. Heard at least 2 gobbling on the roost that morning. Marshall co.

I agree, but the sudden and dramatic shift in temps that can cause them to lock it up. Now this morning, they should be happy again. I also like cool clear crisp mornings, but post front crisp mornings are a toss up.

I agree 100%. Sudden temperature changes typically tend to throw them off as far as gobbling goes in the areas I frequent. My buddy and I always say it typically takes them a day of getting reacquainted after the sudden shifts in temps (an in-between day if you will) and then they should be back at it, gobbling and more vocal as we like.
