When to a buddy house this morning to do a little huntin. We got on a bird on the limb, got within 80 or 90 yards from him on the limb. I hit the call, he cut me off, I hit it again he cut my off. I heard him take off flying, he fly right to us land about 40 yards. When he blew up in strut it shocked me I thought to myself what in the world. About 5 mins later I shot, walked up and was amazed.

Interesting. Are his legs and feet as white as the one appears to be in the photo? If that is a foot I am seeing, it appears to be lacking the pink hue commonly seen in eastern wild turkey's feet/legs.

That's crazy looking if it's definitely 100% eastern. If so have it mounted. Looks like a cross-breed between an eastern and a merriam. Congrats!

x2. That was my initial thought as well. I did not post it at that time because I did not want to come across as a hater, naysayer etc. With that said, congrats again on the bird.

That's what we thought it may be but, the road he lives on has two house on it for two miles and that's it. His and his dads. So we don't know if he was tame, where would he come from?

If he roosts in the woods nowhere near a farm, gobbles on the limb, and comes in to a call strutting, I would kill the hell out of him too. Good job. Pretty bird.

I'm not familiar with domestic turkeys, but what do you do in his position? Kill it? Assume it's domestic and let it go?

Hey guys, going on my 5th year turkey hunting, so pardon my ignorance. But...do you seriously think it is tame, or am I missing the joke. If your serious, why would you think it is? Also, can someone on here say for sure that it is a merriam? It sure looks like it is. Again, pardon my ignorance, but have you guys killed or seen killed any other birds in TN other than Eastern? Just curious...Anyway, beautiful bird.

I'm on my 2nd year turkey hunting and here's my 2 cents...

He's not heavy like a merriam, or are merriams not always big birds? Could just be an interesting white phase bird. I've seen some birds that were mostly white (silver phase) but still had some color. I wonder if this is just a natural phase or a bit of domestic genes bred into the wild flock. Wouldn't assume it's someone's pet, and if it is, then it got loose and is up for killing IMO...

Here are the ones I saw, much more white but still cool looking

Because I have seen first hand other species in Tn that were pen raised.... for whatever the purpose.... maybe that is the case and it escaped it's pen.... being a turkey, he went and mingled with the native population.

I am betting a wild hen got mixed up with a tame tom. Hens travel quite some distance, so it doesn't have to be from near by.

BTW, I would have shot it and been proud of it. It's a good bird and probably as wild as the rest in woods.
