In the last year dad has lost I think close to 30 hens a few roosters and 6 geese. 5 of the geese were killed the same night. I thought the hawks were getting most of the smaller birds but the geese prove we have something bigger to deal with. Mom wants any animal capable of getting her birds dead

Coyote season is open year round. Dogs and foxes can be the culprits too. I lost about 10 hens last year before finally killing the chicken killing fox. Haven't lost any since then but the predators are out there-fortunately not all of them develop a hankering for killing livestock. PH

When I had chickens, it was coons I had the most trouble with. Easy to catch with a cage trap.

I think he means trap 'em and drop trap in water. I've heard of that for skunks before.

A buddy at a hunt club near mine used sponges cut up into 1x1 squares soaked in Chicken grease. He would put them out in piles and the Coyotes would eat the sponges apparently it kills them. He hasn't seen the numbers he used to.

This set will catch any of the above animals mentioned. Then you will know what it is getting the chickens. If you do it after Nov when the Trapping season is in contact you local trappers and someone will buy the pelt I am sure.

I haven't had chickens in years but once found 10 dead under a roost pole. Possum was still there. He had just went down the pole and bit the head of every chicken on it and had not tried to eat any of them.

you may be right about the foxes as we have seen a few over the years and killed a few yotes and cats from deer stands too. Mom Loves her birds but keeps everything caged and hates it
