Considering fishing the Duck for smallies or whatever will bite. Might catch a load of crawfish in a tributary and then float the river a little while. Just tossing around the idea for sometime in the next few weeks. Not set in stone by any means. Just wondering what the smallmouth fishing is like this time of year on the duck. Also catfish. have hardly fished that river, but hunted by it many times. I'd like to get more familiar with it, anywhere from columbia up to chapel hill. Got any pointers?

I've never done it but always wanted to. I know a guy who owns a jet boat. He fishes for smallies on the duck right outside (upstream) of Columbia. He catches a lot of fish this time of year and even has a few in the 4-6 lb range.

We catch a lot of small mouth in the Duck. I've seen a couple pulled out in the last year or so over 4lbs and one 5+lbs. There are in there. We catch em mostly on plastics but crawfish will work too. Catfish I've never pole fished for on the Duck, just set limb lines.

Yep some real good ones there. Live bait usually used shiners or stone rollers just cause I can work them some instead of letting them sit like crawdads but they will certainly work. As far as artificial goes its hard to beat a white spinnerbaits with a single silver willow.

I actually thought of doing limb lines... any decent cats in the duck? what about flatheads?

Rarely use spinnerbaits myself but a plastic lizard is my favorite. And for minnows you can't beat a stoneroller. I usually throw shiners back when they come up in the cast net, I just want those stonerollers.

Not trying to highjack, but I do love using white spinnerbaits on the harpeth. I prefer to use zoom lizards or grubs, but I do keep an extra rod handy with a spinner.

guess I should buy one sometime. Just never got into using them, except beetle spins and the occasional rooster tail. Can't beat zoom lizards in my eyes, maybe I haven't tried enough baits but zoom lizards seem to be the best. Green pumpkin or watermelon seed.

Never tried it on the Harpeth or Duck, but a small topwater minnow, twitching it, works pretty good as well. Nothing like seeing a smallie explode on a top water bait.

Catman you were asking about flatheads.....caught a 26 pounder today while bass fishing on the Duck. As far as smallmouth, I have never seen one on the Duck.

one time several years ago I was reeling in a dead stoneroller while catfishing the harpeth. As it skimmed across the surface a good 2+ pound smallie nailed it. That was fun.

that's a good cat right there, is the location a secret? Need to find a hole where the big cats sit.
