I really like a lot of the features on the Excaliburs, but I have read time and again about how noisy they are. Can some of you’re here compare a Phoenix to a typical TenPoint or Parker in terms of noise? This could really play into my decision.

DO NOT worry about the noise from any crossbow. The only thing that seems to cut down noise any considerable amount are the new style string dampeners similar to the STS or the dampeners on the newer Mathews bows. Don't waste money on all the string silencers and such - they simply slow your crossbow down and separate a little cash from you.

IMHO, Excals are the noisiest if you are trying to wring every fps you can out of them, i.e. FFF string and stock 360 gr arrows. Going to a dacron string or slightly heavier arrow minimizes this. Danny Miller the USA warranty rep turned me onto GT LII's at 431 gr which shoot great. He also says a deaf man can hear the quietest xbow made, lol. They are all loud. There isn't much you can do about it. Just forget it and buy the one you like the best. Quiet is one word never used in conjunction with crossbows.

Noise naw just where earplugs or hearing protectors. Keep shots close on deer 35 yds. max for me.

If you don't hunt over 20-25 yards the deer will hear the bow just after the bolt passes through him. During archery season I tend to hunt in the thick stuff and this is about my normal range. I usually set stands 20 yards off trails when possible.

Ive only had experience with another crossbow while at the same time I was shooting mine and it was a TenPoint and I could tell it was more quiet than my Excalibur. Probably not enough to make a difference for the reaction of a deer but then again maybe so but it did sound quieter to me.

My Exocet is pretty load compared to some of the compound xbows.
I've yet to loose a deer because of the noise, I have have missed deer when I look through the scope and forget to allow for the arc of the arrow on tight shots near heavy brush.

that's one reason i bought a parker,and no trigger creep.Trigger is just like a rifle.But the best thing you can do is what i did.
Don't take my word or any others,go to a shop and take one of each model and shoot them all. I went with 1500 cash to buy a ten point and came home with the parker.For 600.No lubeing rails,this is the 3rd year on my string and i shoot alot.Have killled 11 bucks and one doe with it the past two years.AND before everyone gets started, i do hunt in Alabama.Now this year i'll have to CALM the parker down alittle!
