all right, so who's done it... Later in the season, the WMA gets tough and birds are hard to find (except hens of course). Lately I've only heard gobblers just out of reach on private land, and their roosting locations are not as consistent as they were earlier.

It's frustrating... I was in a spot I never hunted before this morning. I had one gobbling good on the limb and the ground for a while after sunrise. I was in the woods on the WMA facing a field about 50yd away and the field was part of a private cattle farm with multiple fields. If I'm not mistaken, the bird was probably roosted just across the first field in the tree line. I went to the edge of the woods to look out - no fence or posted signs, but my map said it was private so I stayed out of the field. And because there was no fence, there was cow sign all over the section of WMA, but more importantly, it would be easy for a bird to ome over onto public land if I could call him in.

so I had the bird gobbling fairly often until a vehicle came into the private field - I only caught a glisten through the trees but it was driving into the field. A little while later it left, and when the bird finally gobbled again, he was much farther away.

I kind of want to try again and see if I can all him over onto WMA property. I don't know if he'll be roosted in the same area in a week though, or if he has hens that I didn't hear. I never actually saw him due to the terrain and the woods and the fact I couldn't go into the field. If you were in my shoes, would you try again? I won't get to go for him again till sunday or monfay.

A ton. I used to hunt a place in Bama that the birds roosted usually on the other side of a creek from the property I had permission to hunt. I probably called in and killed 30 birds from that place over the years before the property sold and I lost access.

My first 2 seasons living here I hunted a place in Jefferson County, the birds loved to pitch down into a field across the property line. I probably called in and killed 5 birds there.

Yes I would try again, nothing illegal or unethical about that IMO. Even if someone is hunting the other property, all is fair in love and war. Turkey hunting is war.

As Setterman said it can definitely be done and no reason not to try. The one hunt that comes to mind is I was hunting across the road behind my neighbor's house and the birds always roosted on the adjoining property and would normally fly down and go the other way. The property I was on was only 15 acres so I didn't have much room to roam. Anyway one morning the hens got mad at me and started raising cane so I mocked everything they did. Next thing I know I've got hens all over me and a couple of longbeards in tow. I waited until one walked off the end of my gun barrel and let him have it.

the 1st longbeard I killed this spring crossed a creek. It was actually 3 longbeards and they gobbled at my calls, while a couple hens snuck in between me and the river, and when the gobblers saw the hens they came right to the edge of the water, then flew straight across the river. Then hammered hard down the bank just out of sight. Finally one popped his head up the top of the bank 5 yards away and saw me. Putted and left... all the birds made their way out into the field... went 300 yards across the field, toms strutting, to another hunter in his pop up blind with decoys. The hunter shot one, they didn't scatter, they just walked back my way and I shot one of the gobblers as he walked by at 22 yards. You may have seen that story when I posted it but I had to tell it again... won't ever forget it.

Back on topic, if I can't meet up with Burd and kill one next weekend, I may just have to try and call that gobbler again and pray he's not roosting further into the private property. I just have a feeling I could call him in if given another chance. I think that vehicle driving into the field may have screwed my hunt.

Unethical, I'd never think of such! Very shady IMO.
