went to a spot I had not hunted before this morning. Public land. Bird or two started gobbling at dawn. I finally got situated just after sunrise in the woods about 50 yds or so from a field edge. The field is private property according to the map but I have not seen no trespassing signs posted and this section of the WMA has cow sign all over so I'm not sure what's up with that (yes, it is definitely WMA).

anyway the bird gobbled good on the ground too, on and off he would gobble, and responded to my calls once or twice. I thought he was fixing to come in and look and I would pop him in the woods. Well eventually I heard some kind of sounds off to my right, then a hen came running by silently, then I noticed the glint of a vehicle driving into the field. Eventually it came back out and I could hear a gate being closed. It took a while after that but the bird fired up a couple more times, but was farther away. Now it has been silent for over an hour. I've called once in a while with no response... There's no fence between the field and the woods (WMA) so he shouldn't get hung up if he comes in. Should I stick it out, or head to another spot?

wish I could get in front of him but he's on private land. If I can't call him this way I'll head out...

and there are multiple fields out there, looking out of the woods I can see 2 but satellite images show more.

When the "hen" didn't come out to him he eventually lost interest and went the other way gobbling occasionally. Problem was as he left me he crossed the line and was getting deeper and deeper into another property so I had no option to get in front of him.

I had that problem yesterday. Talk about irritating the snot outta me.

you boys just need to learn how to seal the deal hahahahah J/K

as for the question, he is he still hammering but further away i would head out. he may come back that way but if he was there once changes are he is not coming right back to that same spot.

one thing i have really learned on turkey hunting is calling a bird BACK to a spot he was already at is a VERY VERY difficult thing to do.

yeah only the occasional hen in the fields midday. I'm at another spot now, just gonna check fields briefly but then take a trail down through the woods where there is usually plenty of turkey sign.

my turkey gun will go 125 yards. Patterns nicely in a 125" circle.
