Just a simple yes or no will do. I'm checking no to my question.

that's a hard YES or NO question.

i guess id have to say NO but prob not for the reasons you would think. Birds were still in the same places they always are this time of year on my spots but were a bit harder to call this year.

the green up made the pattern shift pretty fast though which made it a challenge to get on them consistently.

IMO there is no such thing as a "normal" season. each year has its challenges that were much different the year before.

What is normal? I should have asked this before answering.

I normally kill a bunch of birds, and did so this year. So thats a yes.

However, by now birds in my area usually are losing hens by now and hunting picks up, but this year they are severely henned up which is not normal for here.

Gobbling has been really good this year has been really good, but much of it has been pointless as the gobbler was unworkable.

Imo there is no normal in turkey hunting.

killing has been good here in KY. Ground gobbling has not been good. Haven't seen any jakes and very few hens. My reason for saying no.

I understand the comment about "there is no normal in turkey hunting". With that said, my answer was based on what has been normal for me in my areas the past 15 years when compared to this year within reason (gobbling on limb, gobbling on ground, gobblers with/without hens at distinct times, responsive/non-responsive turkeys, disinterested gobblers at distinct times of the season, turkey sightings from roads, time of year I find hens sitting, time of the year I find dust bowls, etc). In the areas I have hunted, the answer has been glaringly obvious, he!! no. Furthermore, the 8-10 guys I normally associate and talk turkey hunting with all agree with me that one better not base anything on this season for the areas we frequent. \:\)

Yes normal for me besides the early green up caused pattern shifting earlier than normal.

I was being serious. The green up allows me to get in really tight on birds, which ups the odds a lot. If this was my first year hunting, I would think turkey hunting is the easiest kind of hunting there is. This is my 16th year of turkey hunting and it has been by far the best spring I can remember.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Many people that I've spoken to outside the TNdeer family have said the same thing, but these aren't hardcore turkey hunters. To elaborate, I hunt northern middle TN in mostly wooded areas with little to no agriculture and few pastures and green fields.
In years past, the first few weeks birds are everywhere, gobblers henned up and you wait them out, a lonely tom will come your way hopefully and you might harvest the bird. The next couple of weeks a lot of the hens have been bred, and you can usually burp loud and a turkey will gobble, and it seems there is a gobbler on every ridge some mornings. The last couple of weeks, if I haven't tagged out, the hens are nested, jakes are running with toms to see where those last few hens are, and boom seasons over. Sound familiar? I thought so, LOL!

Its been a pretty good season. I've been in on 12 turkey killings and 2 misses. Of those 12 turkey killings, 5 were mine, and 1 was my sons first turkey.

No, property I hunt is 4 different fields split up with small thickets. Birds are always there in the spring. But this year it was dead. Fields were already sprayed and brown opening morning. Ground was worked by the second weekend. Nothing there to hold em on my property.

Gotcha, those are three great counties to turkey hunt in. My buddies (4 different guys) that hunt Stewart and Houston have killed several this year, but they echo the same comments about the season as I do. Interesting for sure.
