After a complete bust on Saturday, I thought we would attempt to appease the hunting gods with the ceremonial swillinig of an entire bottle of whiskey and the consumption of a seared turkey heart (of a previous kill). Alas, I end up with nothing more than a hangover and a worthless Hunting partner:

If you cannot kill the wild turkey, drink it (to cap off the weekend):

Yes! My type of logic there.

Not much of a wt fan though. By not much I mean I only drink it in copious amounts when someone else is buying. I prefer blantons, basil Hayden, or benchmark and Jim beam black for lower end.

Had some of the later Friday night at a country concert in Lexington after tagging out that morning. Goal here is to always be tagged out by derby week.

Sometimes the gods require a lot of us and you just gotta step up.

I don't drink hard stuff at all but I love my beer, however I rarely touch it during turkey season. Makes that bed too hard to turn loose in the mornings.

It is a test of character: How much will does one have to get out of bed to hunt after a night of drinkin'.

Oh, and seared Turkey heart is quite good. -nothing like a little iron in your diet the night before a hunt.

I buy a couple of bottles of good stuff each Fall along the lines of Blantons, George T Stagg, Bookers, Noah Mills, but I have found WT to be the best bang for your buck when you're in the $18-$22 per bottle range. I definitely like it better than Makers Mark which, at twice the cost, is only aged to the state minimum. I also really like Wild Turkey Rare Breed. I seldom order high end Bourbons out at bars, though as its just too expensive. Its kind of like the Miller High Life of bourbon: the price is right is its actually a good product.
