Ferg - I sent a long email back that I hope you'll forward to her... She hit the nail RIGHT ON THE HEAD in so many ways... As I told you in the email, I had to stop several times because the tears were more than I could read through.. What you guys were told at Vandy that day, is what we were told every day for almost 3 weeks while in the Med in a coma.. Then all the followup advice from others - all identical - the mad at God, identical...

She touched a place in my heart that not one single person has touched since 5/8/2008 when the wreck happened.. Matthew was also ejected with no seat belt but in his case it saved his life as the pass side of the truck he was in was totally flattened..

Matthew will read this as soon as we are home and can read it alone in his room.. I want him to experience what I did as I read it alone..

Christine has made my day today Ferg!! You have a magnificent daughter for being willing to share her intermost feelings.. I ask again - Please hug her from me and tell her Thank You!!!

I pray that her words can be used to Matthew to glorify God and help heal your family \:\)

It's a long road - but we'll not give up - ever.

Yes Sir - You are correct! God put me here to serve and part of that service is to take care of my family - giving up is not on my menu.. This young man will do great things if I have anything to do with it! Again - I know Matthew will relate for sure even in a heavily medicated state - and this will be a letter I print out for him to reflect back on as we taper off of seizure drugs resulting from the 1/16 surgery and as hs cognitive thinking becomes more and more clear that letter will absorb more and more.. I've read MANY a book on how to help Matthew (TBI Patients) and honest to goodness what always helps the most is someone who can TRULY relate on your level.. My wife wont read it until we go home - after I told her a little she began to cry and she's rolling on little rest today but this weekend, God willing, she'll be rested - at home and reading this letter.

I'm a tough, grizzly old _ _ _, and I was doing fine until I got to this part;

"Everyone says 'God will never give you more than you can handle.' - I call BS. I think he does, and THOSE are the times when we give it to Him. If you are having a bad day - thatís when you let it go. When you think: "I'm not strong enough for this mess." - TELL GOD THAT. Thatís all you have to do - Tell God: 'Hey, I think maybe You gave me more than I can do right now - so here it is - you take care of it.' And He will. I have no idea how, but He comes through one way or another. My parents and I are living proof of it."

I agree 100%!!!

Whowever said that He won't give more than WE can handle had it all wrong!!

He will load it up on you sometimes until you are broken, and truly understand that the only way you can withstand the onslaught is when you ask HIM to bear the burden with you.
I've been thru a lot, and like most humans, I sometimes think that I can just take it on my own, or pray it out, and it'll be ok. Sometimes, you have to get slammed in the guts, and realize that you can't handle it alone, and the only way to get thru it is to lean completely on Him.
Turn to God, trust in Him with all your heart, and whatever happens, it is indeed His will.

By the way Ferg, that daughter of yours is wise beyond her years.

Wow. Just wow.
