I am notoriously hard on boots. More times than not, they end up sitting on the front porch for months at a time if not year around and I have worn out multiple pairs of snake boots in less than one calendar year due to miles and miles of hard scouting, turkey hunting, consecutive days of submersion in swamps and dry rotting on the front porch.
I recently got a pair of these Cabelas boots: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-G...ch-All+Products
I generally stay away from footwear made by a company that does not specialize in footwear, but these had really good reviews and I thought moving away from leather might be a good idea. I was also looking for a pair of snake boots that are Gore Tex lined. Even though I am not a fan of Gore Tex because of its lack of breathability, the amount of time my feet spend in 4 to inches of water around the swamps if West TN and North MS seems to necessitate it. I considered dropping the money on Danner's, but watched a partner of mine go through the process of returning his Danner's 4 times due to leaking within a few weeks of use of each pair.
Besides a couple of strolls walking the dogs to break these boots in, they have been out 3 times so far and exposed to water each time. Yesterday, I had them out rabbit hunting on the Hatchie River where we walked miles and miles with our feet submerged in the endless sloughs, kicking up briars as tough as steel.
So far, so good.

I bought a pair of Cabelas Whitetail Extreme boots with 600 grams of thinsulate. I have been satisfied with them, Cabelas seems to make a pretty good boot.

http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/largeImagePopup.jsp?productId=1208041&cImage=s7_813618_530_01 I love the boots I have had them for 4 seasons and the are the bomb the zipper boot is the way to go IMO.
I'm a pretty lean guy, so I have found the zippered boots to fit too loose and therefore not provide enough ankle support. If you're of a thicker build, they may work just fine, though. -No doubt that they are easier to take off.

Another vote for these boots! HAd them for the past 2 seasons and never had wet feet, they are comfortable for hiking/scouting/stalking and seem to hold up well.
Downside is getting them on and off, so looking at the full zipper ones for replacements.

I ordered these boots and got them in last Thursday. I took them out of the box on Friday and walked 6.5 miles in the mountains in them. Obviously that was a bad idea, but my feet werent mangled. I had a blister, but they were brand new boots so that's to be expected for me.
When they get broke in - I feel like they will be awesome.
Didn't test the water-proofness.

Hey Poser...still waterproof after chasing turkeys all spring?
Let me tell you, I put some serious miles on these boots since January. Miles and miles and miles of rabbit hunting, scouting for deer in March and hard turkey hunting in both the Mississippi Hill Country and the bottom lands of West TN.
5 months later, they don't look near as new, definitely smell a lot worse, but they are still offer good arch support and are fully waterproof. I've put at least 200 miles on them, probably closer to 300, with no seam or sole separation.

That's all I wear. Unless its really really cold because they don't make em big enough for 2 pairs of socks. I need a new pair and these seem to be the ticket!

Would these make a good bowhunting boot?

I bought mine for LBL bow hunting. I've seen timber rattlers several times there. I have the earlier version of that with the Gore-Tex booties. Overall very goos boot. Comfortable and durable. My legs are just too damned big for anything taller than a 8" boot. May go to chaps next year.

Have worn them bowhunting for the past 2 seasons...other than the having to work to get them on and off, they are the best boots I own! Bought a pair of UA SPeed Freaks for a much steeper price but these will probably get more miles than them!
