The new Ten Point crossbow in cabela's 2007 archery catalog is $2,000.
Im all for crossbows but you must be really retarded to pay that much for a crossbow.

I agree and I think all of them take advantage of the average consumer but TenPoint is a top of the line high quality manufacturer and its probably priced as a complete "everything you need" package. I do believe you get what you pay for with crossbows.

That is TOP of the line in any crossbow.It is COMPLETE and ready to shoot/hunt with.
It is a lifetime bow..divide your anticipated number of hunting years left into that dollar figure and see what you come up with on a yearly basis.
If I wasn't retired and on a very fixed income I would have one....and I've never considered myself "stupid".

i do think they are very overrated!! Ive shot with some guys who have em and majority regret not buying something cheaper. Guess they thought it would give em some magical powers or something. Its a compound bow turned sideways.....come on now

I don't have a Phantom, but do own a TenPoint QX4 (full package) that listed for close to $1,000 two years ago. I don't regret it for a minute..
Not a seconds worth of problems and it has stayed zeroed in all that time. It has acounted for two very nice bucks and two very nice turkeys. I couldn't be a happier with it....

In about 5 years, your lifetime crossbow will be replaced with something bigger, faster, more powerful etc. Then what, start saving for another lifetime crossbow. There are other excellent crossbows out there that will do as good a job and a lot cheaper.

Sorry... I don't trade cars or bows or crossbows that often.
I'm driving a 9 year old 4Runner and will drive it for another 9 at least - it only has 85,000 on it now.
My last vertical bow (XI Legacy)was 8 years old when I had to hang it up 6 years ago.If I could go back to vertical I'd have it restrung and keep on shooting/hunting with it
No, my QX4 is a lifetime bow..

You know the same argument can be made about rifles. I $200 rifle can kill a deer just a dead as a $2000 one.

I resemble that remark. I'm still driving my truck I bought in 1977 and shooting double cam compound bows. They both work just fine. I bought a Excalibur bow last year and plan to get a lot of years of service out of it. It's probably the last crossbow I'll buy in my lifetime.

I have a Phantom. Best I ever held, shot or saw. That price is for a full package that includes everything. That makes that price just about equal to a top of the line compound bow and all the accessories.
Sure, you can get less expensive equipment. You can also buy a Yugo instead of a Ford or Chevy. Both will get you to the end of the street.
I also had a Weatherby, custom rifle. It cost twice as much as the Savage I preferred to shoot. But both seemed to kill deer. I sold the Weatherby for a little over twice what the Savage cost.
But it was a Weatherby. Nobody said it was overpriced.
