I have been working on this shooting house the last couple of days, and I will say it was quite a job to set it up. I pre built everthing bottom, each side with siding and it was a lot of trouble to setup. i used treated wood and the sides were quite heavy to handle (even with winch). Next time i will use lumber not treated and put the siding on after it is setup. Just wanted to pass on the info

Looks good. Nice job. The hard work will hopefully pay off in about 10 months or so.

Make sure that you use some tie downs. I have had two blow over through the years. Best thing are those screw in dog leash anchors and some rope or cabling. You might think that it is to heavy to blow over but the wind from a good thunderstorm will blow it right over.

I put some of those dog anchors in with some cable in prep for the storm tonight. I guess we 'll see if its going to make it. They are saying it is going to be bad tonight. Thanks for the tips!

Painting will help it last, but you need to wait at least a year to paint treated wood.

looks good. How high off the ground is the box? In the past I have cut down the width of my framing material a bit on a table saw to help reduce the weight of the walls.

How is your anchor system holding up? Won't put mine up until this fall after they get the corn out because I didn't have it finished before they planted. It's going to need anchored down also. I don't have any exposed wood except for the legs and the underneath side. The sides have a metal skin over 1 3/4" Styrofoam window panels and trimmed the rest out in steel flashing and vinyl windows. I'll post some pics after I have it up.

It has 12 ft posts and another 6 ft tall. The anchor system has worked so far. We had some large trees blow down a month ago and it is still standing. I think it will be ok.

How many anchors did you use and are they on the corners at an angle or straight down?

I used 2 screw anchors. 1 in front and 1 in back. I made a y with my cable to attach to the two posts. Straight out and middle with anchors, maybe 2-3 ft out from stand

Thanks. That's sorta the plan I was thinking of trying. I also thought about digging down several inches where each leg will set and fill with gravel so it has a solid base to keep pressure on.

We have four shooting houses out on our lease and they are 20ft. off the ground, We used T-post to anchor. We drove 6ft. T-post in beside the front right leg and by the back left leg, leaving about 2ft.-3ft. out of the ground then we used some 1 1/4" steel band to band the post to the legs.

Used one of these 48" ground anchors on another project and you can't beat the price!
