In the market to buy my Dad a shooting bench for Christmas. Needs to be easily adjustable for right and left handed shooters. Any recommendations? Thanks.

A good rest like a Lead Sled on a picnic table is all a man really needs. All the portable shooting benches I've ever seen still need some sort of rest to sit on them before you'll have something. All they have are a place to rest the fore end of the gun. Nothing to hold the butt.

I built this Shooting Bench myself for about 80.00 bucks. The legs screw off for easy transport and it is rock solid when put together.

Can you show the underside hardware(how legs attached)?

Read this on how I built mine. One of the best parts is that the adjustable-length legs allow you to use it on hilsides or uneven ground. You could accomplish the same thing with rdl65's bench by having several legs of different lengths. If I was going to use mine for more than a few times each year, I'd build his design.

Thank you Jakeway! I looked all over for that thread yesterday and never could find it. Had a guy give me one of those saw horses a couple weeks ago and I'm gonna build a bench out of it. Nice work.

Here is a link to the website I got ideas from. I used 1.25" diameter legs instead of 1.5" though.

I looked at this one. http://www.airgunarena.com/index.php/Shooting_bench_plans_-_steel

I ended up building this one, I am planning on finding center weight and attatch a chain and loop so I can move it with my tractor. But if you want portable I would go with jackway's plan.
