all kids love the lever action
even us big kids especially if they're left handed
maybe its the cowboy thing but it really appeals to them

What would you recommend for a 9 year old girl? Taking my daughter this year and trying to decide if .243 is too much for her. She weighs about 75 lbs so she's pretty skinny to begin with.

depends on the 12 year old. I had a Rem 700 30-06 when I was 12 while my cousin still shot a ruger auto 44.

I recently bought a Ruger M77 hawkeye SS in a 223. for my little girl.....well for her someday....she is only 7 months old.

start her shooting early so she'll be ready if she's gonna deer hunt with a 223.

This is the question i was facing a few weeks back. i wanted to buy my son a gun to hunt with. I wanted a gun he would be comfortable with and be scared to shoot as he had never ever shot a gun before. Well i went to a local gun shop and they hooked us up. they let him shoot a ar15 .223 to see how he would react. Well it was great. long story short a .243 is in his future unless he wants to shoot my rem 700 bdl 25.06

so im +1 on the .243

243 is a great starter rifle. mine 11 year old shoots my 270 but he loves the 243.

the remington model 770 is pretty cost effective and it comes in .243 or a .270, the only reason I mention it is that its shorter than my model 700 in .243 and still a full size rifle, pretty light weight also. I think bass pro shops has it with a 3-9x scope for 349$ I considered getting one just to have a larger calibur to sit around in the gun cabinet.
